Lulu's "Fido Fun Day"

We couldn't do what we do without the help of our dedicated volunteers!

The behavior team here at SPCA Tampa Bay designed the "Fido's Fun Day" program to give our shelter dogs a break, time away from the day-to-day of shelter life.  This field trip also helps us learn more about the dog's personality outside of a sometimes stressful shelter environment. Characteristics, likes and dislikes learned from Fido Fun Day help in finding each dog a family that is a perfect fit! Outings improve their socialization and stimulates their brain with different activities and smells. A day spent out and about with a volunteer also gives the dog exposure and a chance at finding love OUTSIDE of our shelter.

"Fido's Fun Day" as told by a SPCA volunteer, Featuring adoptable dog: LuLu

"Right from the start, Lulu was a good girl. She was a calm passenger in the car, and never once distracted the driver".

"At Three Birds Tavern, the servers learned that Lulu was looking for a new family, so they told all their tables, and almost everybody stopped to say hello to her on their way out. LuLu had perfect manners meeting human strangers. We gave her business card to a brunch guest who said that her brother had asked for help finding him a dog. Fingers crossed"!

"LuLu never begged for food, or barked, or made any fuss to anyone! She just made sure I was happy with her, and that made her happy".

"After a long walk downtown after lunch, we came home for a nap. She had great house manners, too. We both appreciated the air conditioning. After the nap, we played fetch in my fenced back yard. She's not terribly playful at her age, but she was happy to get back in the car to go bye-bye (even though it was back to the shelter boohoo)".

"Lulu was the best buddy I could have asked for. She is very patient and loyal. She was looking out for me as much as I was looking out for her".

Thank you to our dedicated volunteer, Denelle, for sharing this story.

LuLu is currently looking available for adoption at SPCA Tampa Bay in Largo. She is 60 lbs. and 7-years old. Learn more about her at spcatampabay.org
